Here are the software and hardware numbers from Japan, straight from Media Create (http://www.m-create.com/ranking/), for the week 06/22 to 06/28.

Wii Sports Resort was released last week going straight to the top of the chart and selling 359,690 copies. The original Wii Sports has sold 3.58 million (http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=2667&region=All), despite not being packed in with the console in Japan, so we can expect Resort to have legs. The Wii hardware did not get much of a boost however, suggesting that Nintendo will need to incorporate MotionPlus into an application like Wii Fit if they expect to see Wii hardware numbers go back up.

Last week was a great week for all gamers with a ton of releases and six new titles in the top 10. The 360 finally managed to get a game in the top 10 with Blazblue selling a credible 24,812 copies when compared to 33,768 on the PS3. The PS3 itself had 3 new titles make the top 10, the other 2 being RPGs.

This week Kenji Matsubara, CEO of Tecmo Koei, became another industry figure to plead for a PS3 price drop, while being mildly positive about the 360:

Tecmo Koei Boss Speaks Out | Edge Online (http://www.edge-online.com/news/tecmo-koei-boss-speaks-out)

“Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps, I always ask them: 'Please cut the price,' but I don't have a clear view on Sony's situation,” he said when interviewed by CVG.
...
Speaking with website Kikizo, meanwhile, he recognised the momentum of Xbox 360 in Japan, at least compared to its predecessor. “Xbox 360 as a business is doing better than the old Xbox. They have a good opportunity for growth, but of course Sony is a Japanese company and Microsoft is known as a business software company, so brand image is one point. But Microsoft is doing well, especially considering how difficult it is these days.”

Meanwhile, Suda51 expressed concern about the future of No More Heroes on the Wii:

No More Heroes Will “Need A New Platform” | Edge Online (http://www.edge-online.com/news/no-more-heroes-will-“need-a-new-platform”)

“I really want to make NMH a big franchise,” he told us on a recent trip to see No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, “and with this second episode have bigger success. I’m putting a lot of care into developing this IP, as I feel there’s a lot of potential.”

“I think this is the last NMH that is going to be developed on Wii,” he added. “To expand NMH to new possibilities, we need a new platform. Wii is a great platform, but we’ve done everything we can with it now.”

After the flood of new releases things are much quieter this week. The DS has Shuwa no Mori (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-cl-49-en-70-3dd1.html), software to help you learn sign language. Unfortunately it does require ability in Japanese to use. On the PSP is the rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project Diva (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9f-49-en-70-3b8q.html).

Suda51 must have a raging hard for Natal.

I'm not quite sure why he seems so obsessed with Natal but I suppose it's good that he's thinking about how to use it creatively. For now I bet he hopes that NMH 2 sells better than the first though.

Kinda surprised to see that. I wonder if those gamers just don't own a PS3.
