You...you're rather bored right now, aren't you?
In anycase, WELCOME tortiekat!
My wife is sick and I've been home taking care of her. In three days I've seen just shy of 40 episodes of Wings.

Wings is the greatest sitcom ever.
You and I are now friends.

Pretty new here, but figured I'd toss out my WoW info.
Main server: Garona
Svetya - draenei hunter (85)
Panacéa - gnome priest (85)
Aeraenlys - night elf rogue (83)
Also, an assortment of alts sprinkled around.
Welcome to CoG!
I am Sestuis btw.
You and I are now friends.
Christ, Hawk. Why don't you just wish he gets the AIDS?

The subject has come up a few times of going back lately, but I don't think it'll happen. There's nothing to do. They've made the level curve so easy that you out level half the content, and reaching cap takes so little time it has essentially cut the game short.
I'd already done pretty much all cataclysm had to offer before a month was even up. It was good content, but except for the post-Northrend stuff it was out leveled so fast that half the zone would be grey before you were even done with it.

Yeah, I had the same problem; I never made it very far when I played back in BC-era, so it was a bit of a challenge to make sure I got enough of the story quests to know what was going on and where to go before outlevelling the area.

I haven't been back since the 2 weeks I played after Cata hit, and I hadn't played for months before that either.
I think I'm actually over WoW for good. I simply don't feel any urge to go back.

Yeah, I'm the same exact way. I haven't had an urge to play in 7 months now. I played for only a week or two after Cata came out, and I was really excited by the release, but I don't know. I'm just done for now.

Warhammer and Tera Online are what I'm waiting for. WoW has become too boring with game play that's become stale. The game play just never grew Yeah here's some new 5 man dungeons and raids with encounters that are just a mish mash of everything they've already done with difficulty raised on the number side only to be nerfed with following patches. That's just how I feel about it. I've had a lot of fun raiding but the lack of guild housing and other tools to help run a guild it's just become too much tedium of becoming a quartermaster and an organizer on top of the rehash game play that just feels like jumping hoops.
Honestly I can't wait for Tera with the feedback in combat it looks like a nice change requiring skill that the average back of the bus MMO player who is just there to chat will lack.
If there's one thing I can't abide in games it's when you're trying to achieve something that's difficult but being held back by dabblers. I don't see how I play as hardcore, I play because I love the game and I control my character as well as I control my own body and when the game allows my responses to be as accurate as fast as I can think and how fast I can react, I'm happy.

Hawk, Blue, iHap: Thanks! Ghostbear/Wiam told me I should check this place out, so I did.
iHap: I kinda figured you were Ses, considering Wiam calls you Hap on occasion on Mumble :)
Hawk, Blue: Wings was such a fun show!
I have my moments with WoW, but for the most part, I do enjoy it, and the camaraderie with guildies and other friends playing it. I get really annoyed though with the randoms and people not being happy if your group isn't steamrolling through everything. Hence me sometimes running away to Minecraft for hours on end to build (or attempt to build) stuff and kill some creepers :D Anger management, I guess.

Well I guess my account got hacked I guess. In the period of a few hours, I got messages from blizzard saying my account had been suspended for exploits, items restored (?), banned, then closed/permabanned. Strangely I find myself not really caring about wow enough any more to even bother to appeal this. Fortunately, I had cancelled my sub and deleted all my info just a few days before this happened.

I actually really like our new Panda friends and by the time it comes out, I'll be away from WoW for a long enough time to make going trough it again with my shiny bouncy new Panda Monk fun again.
I was thinking about what they could do with the new expansion to compete with SWOTOR and GW2, how much they would have ramp up everything to make big enough impact. Instead, Blizzard decides to take this time when many people (potentially the most hard core people, the alpha gamers) will go and check out the new and the shiny to revamp the whole talent system, this time for real. They decided to give us feel good expansion, full of cute and cuddly things, pandas and pets expansion.
Pet Battles though, I hear there are some pokemon fans out there and results and implication of this are just too interesting to miss. Also, almost ALL pets are tradeable, this in combination with the flying lion cub experiment... i see a long and lush future for World of Warcraft.

They mention that monks only use their weapons for finishing moves, so I think a lot of their abilities, and perhaps even their auto-attack, will be using their fists.

If I am correct, I believe I read some Blizzcon discussion saying that the tanking Monk would use a Staff much like a Tanking Druid.

Any word on new character slots? Mine are full on my main server, and I'd go back right now just to reserve a name:

I dunno. I jumped back in a few weeks ago to find:
1) One friend left.
2) Guild gone completely, besides myself.
3) A nearly silent server.
4) A whole lot of new mind-numbing dailies.
Then Blizzcon came, and I read all about MoP, and I digested it in mine own brain. And I thought, and I thought. And then I pre-ordered the Old Republic CE.
I can't quite pinpoint why I decided that this new expansion signals the total end of my WoW career, but it does. I have zero interest in any aspect of it. I really don't know why. It may be the weird faces I made when I heard about pet-Pokemon, or it may have had to do with everyone I used to play with having vanished (I find this the most likely). It's hard to run a raid by yourself. And the Raid Finder doesn't count. And after a few days of getting kicked out of Cataclysm heroics (not the troll ones) as a holy paladin with an item level of 355...yeah. That's enough.
SonofSeth

I plan on buying SWOTOR too, but there is no doubt in my mind I'll be there when Pandas come.
I was in WoW the whole duration of WotLK and Cataclysm just broke me, like the first time when Vanilla broke me because I didn't find raiding fun, it was a classic example of burnout.
I plan to take this time to play soooo many other games and TOR, so that when Mists get released I can come back and feel like there are new stuff in the game again.
Pandas are cool in my book. Pet battles, well I did spent some hours fighting with those little remote control tanks, so that's where my mind goes when I think about all the pet possibilities.
So I guess with the introduction of the Gaurdian Cub there is now a legal way to convert money for gold? It's a rip off because you never know how much the pet is going to go for on the AH but it is legal.
I'm back in but not really doing anything. Mostly collecting a few more pets while I contemplate recreating my original Orc Hunter that was on a PvP server that I will never go back to.

So I resubbed this past Sunday--yes, I know TOR just came out, but to be honest, I don't have the space to install it or the patience to deal with server queues. Anyway, I think it's the fact that I've typically played over winter breaks, but I was getting mad cravings for the game. I had never gotten a character above 35 (I never played that much my first go-round, and was pretty alt-crazy when I did), so it's nice to see some of the Vanilla end-game zones that I never reached. While I'm definitely glad that the system has been streamlined as much as it has in the past 4 years, I'm a bit sad that I seem to be the only one interested in seeing any of the pre-85 content. I know it stands to reason that most people playing are at or near max level, but I've pretty much solo'd the whole game so far, with a few PUG 5-mans and one run-through of Strat with an lvl. 85 guildmate. It also stands to reason that while I associate December with winter break and downtime, this is the season people are least likely to have time to play, so even the normally-active guild I found on my server has been increasingly barren over the past few days.
But a friend of mine was apparently talked in to subbing for the first time by a friend of hers, and when she does, I may be able to join them. I'm not really looking forward to seeing the first 30 levels for the umpteenth time, but considering my friend wants to be a warrior, this would probably be my best justification to try a support role. I typically stayed with warlock and druid most often, because they're both designed to be pretty self-sufficient for heavy soloing. I might even go really crazy and play a priest. It will depend on what the group dynamic is, I guess.
But yeah, in the meantime, my highest level ever character just hit 53. I'm Soultinker on Proudmoore, if anyone else has resubbed recently and wants some company. I would absolutely love to see some of the epic dungeons with people who are interested in more than just speeding through a random dungeon and complaining about every other member--I've all but given up on the idea of getting a solid raid experience for the next 32 levels, as I'm in no way competent enough with my class to experience raids for the first time in a LFR PUG.
That being said, the combination of the fact that I have owned BC since the week after it released and have never seen the Outlands, but have still picked up WotLK and Cata when they went on discount, and the fact that I am gainfully employed with no homework anymore means that I will probably stick with the game for a while to come. So yeah... come join me. Especially if you're a newbie or otherwise interested in the long haul. I will party with you the whole way through, especially if we can get the 3x refer-a-friend boost.

The boost is godly. Just get all of you together (You can have multiple people get the same boost, providing the main account invites each account in) and then just queue for dungeons. If you want to power level this is THE fastest way. Do quests and stuff in between if you want, to break the monotony.

So, anyone read about this Ironman Challenge (http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/02/07/take-the-wow-ironman-challenge/) thing?
I would do it if Blizzard made a thing out of it, with some achievements, mounts, pets, titles, something of that sort. What would be best is if you could make an "Iron" character with all the limitations built in, what would be better still is if they would make an Iron Server, that would be interesting.

If calling them out isn't part of it, IT'S NOT HARDCORE ENOUGH.
I wonder if other people can check those kinds of stats out through the armory now, or if it's still just for achievement tracking.
If I still played, I'd be tempted...but then I'd also twink the character with all the best gear I could. And never, EVER, run a dungeon. Ever. One bad group, and there ya go.

Well past 35. There is currently a level 80, 72, and several in the level 60 range that have not been flagged for deviating from the rules. Here (http://wowironman.com/) is a link to a site that tracks characters and checks for cheating. It doesn't disqualify anyone since this is a personal challenge but it will call out most deviations from the rules. Not surprising at all is that hunters seem to have the easiest time.

Even if you didn't, that's bonus DPS you don't normally get. Plus a buffer. If the pet goes down hard, you have time to react and run before you die.
I'll be impressed when a spell-based class gets it done with no deviation.
And as for being impossible...it would be boring. Not really the initial challenge, but the easy way to accomplish it:
Grind on non-elites, and only attack those enemies that are 1 level above gray for you. I would say until level 20 or 30 this would be a true challenge...but after that? The XP would come in at a trickle, but you'd satisfy the requirements of the challenge easily enough. And as a hunter? Forget about it.
EDIT: The more I think about it, the less I see this as an intriguing challenge as-is unless you add in some changes. Allow talent points. Allow grouping. Allow guilds. Keep the gear restrictions. Keep the 1 life restriction. Makes for a much more varied and interesting climb to the top. My tactic is really an easy way to accomplish this. Anyone can simply grind their way to the top.

My challenge is to not resub to WoW. :D
They do have a rule that pets can't use talent points but obviously hunters are still at an advantage. I was seriously thinking about giving this challenge a go but I realized that it would get boring fast with some of the limitations.

You know what would be a really interesting server? One where the Ironman rules are in place, but PVP is turned on for everyone, even members of your own faction, and you have perma-death for your character. :)

No way I would play on a server like that. Heck, perma-death plus faction PVP would make for a bad experience.
I couldn't see Blizzard making a server with all of the ironman rules but I wouldn't mind a hardcore server that was perma-death with a few other tweaks. Hell, just make a perma-death server. Even with all of the gear and dumbing down of the game accidents and wipes still happen.

The trick here is to daisy chain guys. That way we'll have people to play with, everyone will get a mount (except the bottom dude) and everyone except the initiator will have an instant 80. (Is this in addition to the xfer? Like I xfer my existing 85 with all my heirloom gear to the server, and then make a level 1 to pop to 80?) And we all just play on a server we all Xfer to :p Start our own guild and just have some fun with our woefully undergeared 80s haha

I wouldn't even mind if we got a CoG guild going for alts (very casual and no expectations) for when MoP hits. It would be great if we could get something going beforehand. Maybe work out realm, faction and guild name. Who knows, maybe a few of us that currently play could get a few guild perks before MoP to help others that come on board. Like I said, I would be willing to either roll a new alt or pay for a transfer if we can make it happen. My current realm isn't what it used to be and I'm most likely starting fresh before MoP launches.
Hawkzombie
03-10-2012, 01:15 PM
My problem is on Garona I have max char slots right now. One of every class (except Rogue) levels 60-75 and one 85 priest. I really don't wanna start over (I used RAF and dual boxed to get all that BEFORE you could do RAF to 80 -_-) unless I could get someone to RAF with me on another server and just Xfer my Main Priest. hahaha.
It's gotten so easy to level these days I'm not worried about leveling new characters when I star over. It's trade skills and reputations that I hate leveling again. I will most likely transfer over a gatherer packed with some heirlooms and use him as the bank alt when I decide to do it. I'm thinking about leveling up my non killing druid and doing it with him if I am on the Horde side. If I go to the Alliance side I have one character that is currently only level 42 but he can act as a mule for a gear transfer.
Like I said, my current realm has changed a lot and I think a (mostly) fresh start is needed. I think doing it before the launch of MoP is about as good of a time as any since I will want to level at least one Panda and/or a monk.
If there are some Coggers that decide to come back or start on a new realm I will go there. I honestly have no preference any longer for faction. I've been Horde for the most part but I wouldn't mind creating an Alliance character and actually sticking with it. The only thing I am not fond of is going to a PvP server. I used to play on one and I found that world PvP just isn't that great anymore. These days it seems to be more about ganking lower levels then faction conflict.

Well, there is the Looking For Raid system, the new Darkmoon Faire, and three 5-man instances tied to the Deathwing's Fall storyline. Also, collecting transmogrification gear. I've found myself happy with the amount of content added since Cataclysm's launch, since I hadn't played it since getting to 85.

LFR...does it work like the LFG system in that it actively finds you a group and starts it once there are enough? Like...If I wanted to get Molten Core done?
And another question: Does it ignore the CD like LFG does with heroics? Because if so...that's kinda worth it for me to go back to finally farm my molten core rep :p
EDIT: I'm fully willing to start a new guild on Garona for CoG if enough people are interested, or if we can actually decide on a decent place I will Xfer my main (85 priest) there if I can get a scroll from someone on that server as well.
I'm willing to drop the gold needed to make it a decent guild, and not be too strict as far as 'WE NEED TO DO X GUYS' and such. Who would be in for that? because to be perfectly honest I'm not going back if there's no one to play with *shrugs*

Yes, though it currently only works with the top tier of raids. I've heard that they will expand it over time however, it's a very new system.

Try the free 20 levels, by level 20 you'll know if that desire was real or just nostalgia.

Y'know, I had the desire, too. As soon as I got into the game...I immediately lost it. I did a few of the same old quests, got invited to a typical start-up guild, talked to a few people, and lost all desire to play.
I forgot about it and got charged another $15.
DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE.

I went back about 3-4 months ago. I got a Warrior to 63 then quit. I was having run until Burning Crusade, but that big boring roadblock killed off my WoW revival.

So that whole "free until lvl 20" thing apparently doesn't apply to the regular client? Or is it 'cause I'm a returning player?
Rift's free levels just work.

You add a starter edition to your account. You get to use the same login information, but can't play with your existing characters.

Anyone here messed with private servers in a while?
I haven't even touched them since the Burning Crusade days, so I can't remember any of my regular spots, and it was always such a bitch to find a server that wasn't missing seriously basic features like quests and mob AI, or that wasn't just some obnoxious PvP free for all wankery for dickheads who got banned.

Heresy! Especially with the newly announced server tech that will pull people from all over your server cluster to repopulate low level areas so to make it look like it's full of people, always, everywhere.
Also, so they don't have to merge servers, EVER :p

Well, the chief motivation for the private server is that it's free, in my case.
Scroll trials are only 7 days, and I'd hate for anyone to waste their's on me if I'm not 100% I can spare the $15 to sub after.
